Omg, it was such an amazing play! The synopsis is as follows:Seymour loves Audrey but it is Audrey II - a special ghoulish green plant - that has him hooked. Right to the last draw of blood! Faustian elements abound in this 'selling the soul to the devil' black comedy - you have to laugh to ease the tension of what is really a dark comedy musical. Set in a failing flower shop, lead character Seymour discovers a fascinating plant - it needs human blood to survive. Seymour strikes a deal with Audrey II. Instead of the Faustian twist of selling his soul to the devil for knowledge, Seymour feeds his blood for Audrey's continued 'showmanship', bringing customers to the shop. As Audrey II grows, so does her appetite and she soon requires more than human blood. Like in the Faust legend, Seymour begins to understand he was foolish, but too late - as least one human - has been sacrificed to Audrey II's voracious need for blood. And there will be more to come! And yes! I saw this awesome play tonight and wow, the audience was packed and it was just the best :) |
